BBC covers Israeli claims to have launched new attacks on targets in Syria, this time in response to the death of an Israeli youth in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The [Israeli] military said it had attacked nine targets in response to the killing of a 15-year-old boy in a strike in the occupied Golan Heights on the border between the two countries on Sunday.

…¬†Israel called the boy’s death the most substantial incident in the Golan since start of the Syrian conflict in 2011.

Israel and Syria technically remain in a state of war, dating back to the 1967 war, one result of which was Israel’s seizure of the Golan Heights.

Several months ago, in March, Israel launched additional air strikes against multiple Syrian military targets after a bombing that injured four Israeli soldiers in the Golan Heights.

Some of Israel’s attacks might also be¬†connected with efforts to stop Syrian supplies of rockets to Hezbollah:

Some of Israeli’s recent air strikes are believed to have prevented the transfer of stockpiles of rockets from the Syrian government to Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia Islamist movement that supports President Bashar al-Assad.
